I had Frontier for many years here, first when they took over POTS from the previous provider (GTE), then with dial-up, and finally DSL. They never put a penny into replacing lines, etc and the old copper trunk wires were so brittle they'd fail intermittently about every 3 months... their response was to (eventually) come out and simply shift our connections to an unused line-pair in the cable which would only last a few months until rinse and repeat.
Their line support poles (which the power company abandoned years earlier) had rotted off behind our property and fell over... Frontier's solution was to dig new holes, plant the now-shorter poles in the hole, and pour cement around them - with some having a 20-degree tilt to starboard. Now the trunk cable hangs so low, you can reach up and touch it between poles.
I finally switched to the local cable provider (for Internet only) and have far better service, much higher speeds, and no problems in the three years I've been with them. The last time I called Frontier for repairs before we disconnected them, it took 4 days for a repair tech to come out to the neighborhood and, in talking to him out at the connection pole, he said the lines were a nightmare to work on but "the management" wouldn't put a penny into upkeep or upgrading... hence he was looking for a new employer.
