cypherstream Thankfully they have manufacturing plants in ….
The taxes (tariffs) which apply are not where final assembly might be done, but when and where each and every BOM item comes from (making the final total tax (tariff) a complex number to calculate in isolation). Using a (really) bad simple example, just for the housing for a node/amp, there may be a different origin for the top lid, the bottom lid, the hinge pin, the latches, the latch bolts, the hangers, the plugs, and the emi/water seal (I probably missed one or more individual parts on the housing, but you get the idea), all of which may have (will have) had different taxes (tariffs) applied on import, so if you wish to sell the completed housing with the same profit as previously you have to calculate the likely increases from your suppliers (who will increase prices to pay for the taxes (tariffs)) when setting your future prices. And the guts of a node/amp have a lot more individual sources of components.
In theory, every supplier has an accurate BOM list with all countries of origin identified for their set of components to ship, so this is all just a math problem. However, with the values in flux, the math problem is a bit more complex.
In some cases there are multiple manufacturing sites for a particular component for a supplier, and some shuffling of origins may be possible to lower the taxes (tariffs), but it is going to take time for any such adjustment (if such as possible) can occur, and that presumes that the various tax (tariff) rates remain stable enough long enough to be able to make reasonable decisions.
It is no wonder some exporters have decided to stop shipping goods for the moment rather than trying to navigate the constantly changing tax (tariff) waters.
