The last time I had a CA do taxes was when I was a trustee for my parents’ estate. They used the wrong real estate valuation method, which resulted in a significant tax increase over what I could have used. (They also billed me over $4K for the work) Since then, any returns I haven’t done myself has been done by my attorney, whose practice is almost exclusively in taxes and estates, with a subspecialty in farm/agricultural finances.
