We had a pretty chonky thread for Baldur’s Gate 3 on DSLR, might as well make a new one here.

Big news is Patch 8, which adds 12 new subclasses along with plenty of other goodies, is set to officially go live April 15th. Huzzah, the wait is over.

I’m really excited about this, Almost halfway through Act one in the Patch 8 beta. There’s a lot dialog improvement, and other goodies beyond the new classes too. Because I’m playing on Linux I haven’t been too excited about modding it at least in the Beta environment. All best are off for the actual launch.

My current Shadow Magic Sorcerer run for the beta was “what if a Gwendoline Christie Character was a drow elf”. It was fun, but not really sure I want to run the whole game that way.

Shadow Magic Sorcerer seems like it would be great for Honor Mode runs. Of the new caster subclasses though I don’t think it is as interesting as say…Bladesinging Wizard or Hexblade Warlock.

I’m pretty excited for Photomode too.

TBH and despite most people saying it’s the S-tier new class (along with PoG Barb) I’m not digging it as much as I thought I would. I don’t think anything is going to hold a candle to Durge Bard… but, I am enjoying Karlach as a BoG Barb and Wyll as a Hexblade.

Also… Drow dialog choices in act 1 is almost as good as Durge.

I always feel compelled to make something different but damnit I like Bard. I’m really gonna try to play something else though. I like the idea of Swashbuckler, actually bench Astarion for once and still have a good Charisma character.

I managed to solo Orin with my Durge Bard, I was sold before, but I was really sold after that.

My last tactical Run, I played a monk… when you add Bae’Zel and Karlach, that’s a lot of martial characters, so I respecced Minthara as a Bardadin for some spells, inspiration and support. This was before I discovered you that performing as a bard makes pick-pocketing ridiculously easy.

So for everyone interested in playing this, it has been a total shitshow so far. I haven’t checked on Windows yet, but on Linux, I’m getting a bunch of errors. The playtest still works, thankfully, but I haven’t been able to launch the actual game yet.

I downloaded the update, checked my mod list and what has been updated, saw it was only 1 like 20, said “Yeah, that seems about right.” And turned my monitor back off.

I’ve waited however many months, what is another couple days, or week even. Or at least that is what I keep telling myself as I sob.

Got this working on Garuda Linux finally, restarted with… Drow Durge Bard. 😆

Gonna reroll Karlach as Giant Barb, Wyll as Hexblade, and probably a few other ones like Swarm ranger and Swashbuckler.

Anyone else running some mods? Looking to run a few QoLs this time around

OK so the consensus seems that Swashbuckler and Arcane Archer were looking suboptimal, but it turns out they’re both very OP. looks like I’m good for a few more playthroughs.
