My printers stopped working on both of my linux systems. I had to repeat steps over and over and update the Eero, but things are working again. Darned Canon Printers and Linux.

I hate how cumbersome inputting text and numbers into cheap printers. And I hate when drivers break.

I don’t even try to print from Linux (because it’s such a PITA). I just transfer stuff I want to print to my iPhone, where printing is a breeze.

🤷 just works with my Brother HL-2140W. I know it’s an ancient laser printer, but it still works and I can still get toner, and the drivers are included as part of foomatic, so zero configuration required on most distributions.

I tried to Scan from Garuda Linux on my Brother printer this weekend and had no issues. Same with printing, it’s been pretty rock solid.

I have two Canon printers here, an ImageClass MF244DW (scanner, laser) and a Pro-100 (photo printer) but I have never tried to print from Linux. Mostly because…printing? I rarely ever have to print anything, but I do have a copy of Mint installed on my old Intel Mac, I can give it a shot and see if it is difficult.

taraf I agree. I have the 2180 and it has never failed me on any linux distro.

As a quick test, I printed from my “homemade” Chromebook (ChromeOS Flex) which is Android/Linux and got a perfect print on my MF244. I will test with Mint later.

I use a Brother DCP-L2540DE printer. It’s been the best printer that I have ever owned. I know that it is starting to get up there in age now though. I do want to get a brother’s color laser later on. I will still keep this one. I have to replace the toner soon, but I gotta find my extra toner. I bought the toner a few years ago.

I love the fact that I can actually use the tray on it to scan paperwork when needed. I had other printers that could do that but the paper would always get jammed up in the printer and made that feature worthless.

The only strange issue I have been having is that my Mac won’t complete the last page of my scan when using the tray now. I think the issue started around the time that Mac OS 16 came out. Once it finishes scanning the last page. I wait to see if it will complete it properly. Sometimes it will, and sometimes, it will just get stuck on page 2 while the third page is rendering. I end up having to force quit the program. Then I just put that one page back into the tray and do this process about two more times, and then I got it into my PDF.

It’s been a while since I lived with the issue, so I can’t remember all of my troubleshooting steps. I know that I would have tested it in a new user account and then the last part would be an OS reinstall which I already have done. I also already updated the drivers as well. Only thing I haven’t done was tested it in my Windows computer to see if I have the issue. When troubleshooting I didn’t have a windows computer available to me. (wasn’t hooked up).

I had a cheap Samsung ML1860 mono laser printer for many years that went through several toner replacements. But last time I changed the toner, it was still bad. I think the fuser finally wore out. It worked with linux, but I don’t remember any specific drivers for it.

The print quality on the laser printer had been degrading for some time, and sometimes there was loose toner powder on the pages. When I switched to a new printer and saw the crisp output, I realized how bad it had gotten.

This time, I went back to an ink jet printer, an Epson M1100. It’s an Eco-Tank printer, black & white only. So instead of buying ink cartridges, there’s a tank that you pour the ink into. I found it frustrating to set-up and get the ink initially primed. But once setup, it seems to work reasonably well. I try to print at least a test page twice a week to ensure the nozzles don’t dry out.

The Epson has linux drivers that I installed, and it works fine with linux (Debian).

15?, I will assume a typo. I know Canon updates the drivers for MacOS often, but they may be omni drivers, the same for all printers and new printers are just getting added, there are not detailed changelogs. I have an update for scanning now that I have not installed.
