Got back from seeing it… I definitely enjoyed it, and would watch it again!
The callbacks to previous Supermans with Eve Teschmacher, Otis Berg, and Lex’s penchant for real estate deals writ internationally… plus the iconic chords of John Williams’ score. When they played that towards the end, I genuinely had tears in my eyes and I KNEW Superman’d be there to set things right.
I certainly enjoyed the portrayals of Superman and Lois Lane, though I haven’t digested the movie enough to see what David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan do in comparison to their respective predecessors and/or what they themselves did with the roles.
Nicholas Hoult knocks it out of the park as Lex in terms of villainy, drivenness and obsession.
I was rather put off by the initial Ma and Pa Kent portrayals, but I think that was made up with the scene of Pa Kent comforting Clark after the revelation of his Kryptonian parents’ message.
Perry White, Steve Lombard, Jimmy Olsen and Cat Grant seemingly walked off the pages of the comics – the “Don’t Call Me Chief!” shtick will never get old 😆 😆
Nathan Fillion basically played himself the whole time he was onscreen, and his chosen manifestations in the final battle… 😆 😆
Three potential flaws :
a. standard caution of going into this for escapism and getting slapped upside the head with reality.
b. seemingly nerfing Superman in all the fight scenes. With one villain, I can see that, but the rest of others…
c. the scene with Kara Zor-El and going back to the well of her seemingly being more interested in partying than what wearing the symbol means I get it, there were no guarentees about this movie or DC overall, but still… you’d think the last 10-odd years writers would realize that well is long tapped out.
