👍️ It seems like Omni has finally made some progress on the Armstrong turf here going by the cabinets that have been being installed. Really looking forward to that 500 Mbps upload, at least I've got DOCSIS 3.1 in the meantime.

The biggest difference I noticed at first when we got switched to fiber was my ping went from around 10ms to 1-2ms. I am glad to hear Omni is making a push. This is an exciting time for fiber. The saturation will cause fierce competition.

Armstrong about to take another hit from competition in our area. AT&T still expanding, Omni starting soon, and just got this notice from Lumos.

dslwanter As of today, Lumos has Akron, Warren, and Youngstown specific ordering pages. Makes me think these cities will be the first to launch with some serviceable addresses.

dslwanter That's interesting. I signed up for that Lumos mailing list back in November and they sent me a series of emails, one every day, just like this. Out of nowhere this morning, I got the one you got. I'm hoping that's a sign of progress.

xpxp2002 Yeah, I figured it might be just fluff since I just signed up after having seen the billboard at the Mahoning, Racoon, and Nortquest intersection. The pre-order flyer from Omni received over the summer hasn't bore any fruit either, no activity here yet. AT&T has stalled as well. Thankfully I took advantage of the Armstrong online billing system and got "Zoom Extreme" for $76/month instead of the highway robbery $109.99 rack rate. Ultimately, I went with their wifi mesh system through Plume because I had a Unfi AP go bad and since there is no longer a discount for "modem" only like in the days of just using their docsis modem, I'll just keep this setup for now.

dslwanter Just got three Lumos emails in the last 20 minutes. Somebody in marketing is quite click happy over there. Wish the OSP side could work that fast.

The two most recent emails are ones I didn't get back in November. One specifically says "Our construction crew is coming to your neighborhood!" and the other says "Lumos is still on the way, with reliable, super-fast 100% Fiber Optic Internet1 for your neighborhood. We promise it’ll be worth the wait." Emphasis is my own.

I wonder if these emails actually mean my address hit a specific point in the build process and they will begin pulling permits soon. Haven't seen anything show up in Newtin or the county permitting site yet.

Edit: Maybe they are making some progress, but probably not far enough along to be pulling permits. There is what appears to be an open job posting for an OSP Construction Manager in Cuyahoga County. Based on the way this reads, I'm not sure if this one position will be for all of the Northeast Ohio projects or only within the county. My guess is the former.

Armstrong finally has built and or building out a fiber network in the Oxford pa/ rising sun md area they have now been faced with competition from Xfinity in Oxford pa which is all fiber therefore a lot of residents including me have switched from Armstrong due to price and frequent outages due to Armstrong changing over to fiber

Looks like someone is running fiber on the poles around Slippery Rock although not sure if it’s Armstrong.

At&t has started in still meadows in austintown, which is just off county line road being the border between Turnbull and mahoning counties and also weathersfield and austintown. These areas are all part of the Niles CO 330-652 and 330-544. No new visible pfp yet but conduit is being placed by custom ulticom, one of the att contractors. I have to assume county line and our development in country meadows will be next. This occuring nearly 3 years after the first wave. Great to see. Also strange to see utility finder markings in the snow lol. Armstrong has to be a bit concerned.

Welcome back everyone! I'm glad I found this site to continue to track the build out. They've ran lines down Shield's over the past couple months. Still not able to order. But I did get a flyer in my mail about strongarm rolling out fiber in my neighborhood. So we shall see.

Lumos has started their build near YSU just north of campus. They are dig orders that say Lumos in the description near Ursiline.

dslwanter That’s great to hear. I just noticed that Omni updated their website a couple weeks ago with additional markets and noted which cities are going to have construction in 30 days or less. February 26 according to the image name.

xpxp2002 one thing i noticed in Niles with omni, they are splicing as customers request service instead of service address to service address. Its hard to explain and ill try to snap a pic of an example next time I am over that way. They managed to get most of niles serviceable in like 8 months.
