Concrete Screw inquiry

Howdy. I would like to receive your input on using concrete screws on a concrete pad.

Tapcon LDT vs Simpson Strong Tie Titan HD:

I will be attaching a stand to a concrete pad and I was thinking of using concrete screws, especially near the edge. The pad is at least 8 inches thick and the stand will be supporting less than 80-90 pounds max.

If you have used concrete screws, which screw brand did you use and were you successful in installing them without too much hassle? Any issues, if so, please explain?

I’ve read that one should use an impact driver to install concrete screws. Seems to me that an impact wrench would damage the grooves in the concrete that the screw makes as the screw is driven into the concrete.

I did use some tapcons a long time ago, and the difficult part was to properly pre-dill the holes. You need a hammer drill for that, and even though I did have a ¾″ Makita with a switchable drill/hammer drill functionality, it still wasn’t as good as a dedicated (read: full time) hammer drill.

Never used an impact for that, but it may help somewhat. You could also use some epoxy in the hole for better retention.
