I seem to have dodged major tree damage with only a few limbs here and there, others in my area are not so lucky but nothing major that I am aware of except for power outages and the Hodag Dome collapsing in Rhinelander, Wi. Now we have this coming on Tuesday night. Tomorrow Night 04/01 87% / 3 in Watching a potential winter storm. Periods of snow. Low 28F. Winds ESE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 90%. Snow accumulating 3 to 5 inches. Blah yuck again.

Most vulnerable are condensing furnaces, which utilize a secondary heat exchanger to extract extra heat from the exhaust gases, with just a low-temperature output. They typically use PVC venting out the side of the home.

Also vulnerable are exhaust vents for gas-fired clothes dryers, usually located low on an outside wall.

The forecasts all promised big snow totals, and they’ve been pretty spot on so far.

That’s about what I saw, but I’m thinking the wind impacted my measurements. My usual measurement spots were closer to 10″, but I saw 14″ on my driveway. Based on other reports, I’d say the higher number was good.

I have wanted to post about this before, but I was unsure how to go about it. I am not very good at being a teacher or explaining things, and was finding it hard to give a heads up without a lot of confusion. Because come March 3rd 2026 some may be confused when they see new graphics in weather reporting.

On March 3 2026 the SPC’s Severe Weather Outlooks Are Changing. Trey Greenwood over on youtube at Convective Chronicles just put out a very good video explaining the changes as he sits down with the SPC’s Evan Bentley and Chris Broyles.

Grab a beverage and see how this is changing, But as always: The bottom line is if a Tornado or Severe weather warning is issued in your area get to your safe spot until the warning expires.

The recent freezes have caused Florida over $3 billion in agriculture losses.

With many agriculture producers in the peak of their growing and planting periods, losses from Ezra and Gianna were topped by the reported $1.15 billion hit to sugarcane growers and $674.7 million by the already fragile citrus industry.

Half of the sugarcane damage is projected as future production losses.

“Since sugarcane is a perennial grass harvested on an annual basis, damage caused by freeze events affects not only the remainder of the current unharvested crop, but also the production of future crops currently ratooning after harvest or recently planted for next year’s crop,” the report states.

The losses included $327 million in damage to citrus trees.

“The industry will face a multi-year average loss in productivity of 27 percent per year before returning to pre-storm production,” the report stated. “It is estimated that 80 percent of the total acres of citrus in Florida were significantly affected by the freeze.”

Spring is severe weather season across the United States, and here’s where AccuWeather long-rage forecasters are predicting damaging thunderstorms and tornadoes to erupt.

The 2026 severe weather season is about to ramp up, and forecasters say that it may look different than last spring’s headline-grabbing tornado outbreaks.

“There may be fewer tornadoes reported compared to last year, but that does not mean this will be a quiet severe weather season,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Alex Duffus said. “There is an increased likelihood of severe thunderstorms packing damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours training. Flash flooding is a big concern this year.”

What’s different this year
Last spring delivered exceptional tornado activity, with nearly two-thirds of the year’s tornadoes occurring from March through May. This year, long-range forecasters expect tornado counts to be around the historical average, but the atmosphere may still favor repeated rounds of severe thunderstorms—especially storms capable of producing wind damage and flooding downpours.

A key factor is the expected quick exit of La Niña, which can reduce how often the atmosphere locks into classic tornado-producing setups. As La Niña conditions fade, weather patterns will be more conducive for thunderstorm development, raising the risks of large hail, winds over 60 mph and tornadoes.

Where storms could hit hardest
The most consistent corridor for severe weather episodes this spring is expected to set up in the typical areas from the eastern Plains into the mid-Mississippi Valley and western Ohio Valley, especially during March and April.

“Cooler air will likely limit severe weather farther in the northern Plains and Midwest until late April and May," Duffus explained. Part of this is linked to the icy waters of the Great Lakes. On Feb. 9, ice coverage on the Great Lakes reached 58%, the highest level since 2019 when 80% of the lakes were covered, according to the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory. …

I was watching the Times Square webcam when the storm hit and saw people building snowmen, throwing snowballs, taking selfies and pictures, and kids playing. It was fun to watch.

Models shift: Significant snow unlikely for NYC next week
As in many cases, it’s way too early to predict potential accumulation for next week – or whether it will be a wintry mix or an all-snow event. Here’s what the models are showing now.

It was initially looking like we were in for some possible snow Thursday tonight, and potentially more significant snowfall early next week. As in many cases, the forecast has changed.

Our chances for meaningful snow on Thursday decreased since earlier in the week – so less to be concerned about afternoon and evening commutes today.

Then we’re looking at a couple more chances for snow and wintry weather, with one system of particular interest, into early next week. A fast-moving cold front arrives Sunday, bringing likely snow showers. There’s a slight chance of brief snow squalls in the area, though the best chance for that stays farther north.

Then we’re looking into another wintry system that might deliver 1 to 3 inches of snow Sunday into Monday, not a more significant number. Another system could follow Tuesday night into Wednesday, but that one is even more uncertain and may start as snow before mixing with or changing to rain if it tracks farther north.

Bottom line: there are multiple chances for snow next week, but confidence on timing and amounts is still low, and details will continue to evolve.
