I seem to have dodged major tree damage with only a few limbs here and there, others in my area are not so lucky but nothing major that I am aware of except for power outages and the Hodag Dome collapsing in Rhinelander, Wi. Now we have this coming on Tuesday night. Tomorrow Night 04/01 87% / 3 in Watching a potential winter storm. Periods of snow. Low 28F. Winds ESE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 90%. Snow accumulating 3 to 5 inches. Blah yuck again.

‘Mass casualty event’ declared as tornadoes hit Kentucky and Missouri
Severe storms have left at least 14 people dead in Kentucky and seven in Missouri, local officials said on Saturday.

At least 21 people have died after tornadoes hit two US states, according to local officials. Some 14 people have been reported dead in Kentucky, its governor Andy Beshear said, while seven have died in Missouri.

The weather system also saw tornadoes tear through Wisconsin, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without power there.

In the city of St Louis, five people were confirmed dead and more than 5,000 homes were damaged, mayor Cara Spencer said on Saturday.

On May 15 and 16, 2025, a major tornado outbreak spawned at least 27 tornadoes in portions of the Midwestern and Southeastern United States. As of the morning of May 18, the storms had killed at least 28 people.

A Wikipedia contributor discussion is ongoing among contributors as to whether 15 May and 16 May should be treated as separate outbreaks. Based on the huge Wx system that moved across the US/southern Canadian area, it would seem to me that the two day outbreak was precipitated by this single system.

egeezer Yes this happens a lot with Weather discussions, because you know human nature, I am the one that has to be right and not you mentality . Anyhow they will figure that part out, It does not diminish the fact that it happened and a lot of people were effected. I just wish more people would understand more about the weather around them and what may be on the way.

I’m surprised that building codes in tornado alley don’t require basements. Where I live on June 1st, 2011 we got a rare EF3 tornado here in Springfield, MA (tornadoes are rare in this part of the country), and everyone in this part of the country has basements. I grew up in tornado country (Iowa) and my childhood home did not have a basement. All we had for shelter was a small closet which both me and my mom barely fit in. As of 2021 (when I last visited my hometown) that house was still standing. It survived the 2020 Eastern Iowa derecho.

And speaking of severe weather there is a severe weather outbreak going on right now (05/18/2025 8:19 PM EDT) and the Weather Channel is playing their “shows” instead of covering the severe weather outbreak. I have not even seen them cut into the “show” to cover the severe weather outbreak.

But if Jim Cantore is in your town make sure your flood and homeowners insurance is up to date because you’ll probably need it.
