hex0101 Lots of Comcast techs don’t like working with the telephone lines, they would rather you go and get a cordless phone system with a base station, plug in the telephone line from the gateway into the base station, and then you can put the telephone handsets around the house.
She already has this setup, so no issues there.
hex0101 Though the VoIP was $30.00. Did you get a discount?
If you have it as a triple-play with the $40 3-product discount, it brings the actual cost to $10, plus less than $5 in local (phone specific) taxes/fees & is what I’m currently paying. BUT, in our last bill, it might appear they are reducing the discount on the 3-product offering…so I’m waiting to see what shakes out in the next 1-2 bill cycles. We have over a year to do the switch, so it’s not like it’s urgent this minute.
hex0101 I did switch my elderly parents to MagicJack and it worked fine for 10+ years.
That’s great that it did, however, you & I both know that there’s more than can go astray when you’re dealing with a 3rd party VOIP phone adapter…either wired or wireless. For folks like us, it’s no biggie…but again, it could be a nightmare for (older) non-techie folks that barely understand how to reboot a modem. As already repeated, by everything being managed by Comcast, they take on that responsibility with the phone service as well…as well as both services being in 1 in-home device. This lady didn’t even realize Comcast offered home phone service until I explained it to her & that’s what I’ve had for years now. She does not have an issue on the pricing at this stage of her life. (she REALLY liked the part of the TV onscreen caller ID!)
