Nintendo Switch 2 worth it?

I have the first-generation Nintendo Switch which I bought in 2017, and I use it to play mostly the classic games on the virtual console apps that come with the Nintendo Switch Online service. I do play some of the switch specific games like the Switch version of Mario Kart. I might make the plunge to the Switch 2 for the upcoming version of the Mario Kart but I’m hoping they offer the classic games on the Switch 2, and I can transfer over my save data.

It would be nice if they could develop a light gun similar to the Super Scope or the Zapper that would work with modern HDTV sets because I would love to play the old Super Scope games or Duck Hunt. I bet re-releasing Duck Hunt would make a modern-day Zapper like device compatible with newer HDTVs worth the R&D effort. There is a whole Facebook group on CRT televisions because people are paying $500+ for working CRT televisions and they are even repairing them with parts off of eBay because they are hot with the classic gaming community.

The Switch 2 is fully backwards compatible with the Switch, including Nintendo Switch Online, so yes all that stuff will be available.

They would have a difficult time replicating light gun games without changing how they actually worked. The old Zapper and games that utilized it basically would flash the screen black when the trigger was pulled with targets being represented as white squares/rectangles and the Zapper would read the light level directed back at it, that is how the games registered hits. That doesn’t work with modern displays. They could do it but it would need to utilize different tech.

I’m trying to decide if I’ll get the Switch 2. I have more gaming platforms than time, and the only real must-haves for me on Nintendo are the Zeldas, Marios and Metroid Primes. I had a Switch but ended up gifting it (and my account) to my nephews.

The only reason, for me to get a Switch 2 right away, is to sit on it until the eventual jailbreak is found. And given how nobody’s even attempted to jailbreak a newer model without a mod chip, that’s basically the beginning and end of my interest in the system.

I was just on a roller coaster of emotions with Ada and Chap’s last couple of posts. Chap had me sold, then Ada let the wind out of my sails. I also have done no research 😃

TheBionic PVPVE… Need to find out more of what that looks like, but it dulls my excitement considerably. Switch 2 Exclusive is a hefty investment, and I’ll admit I passed my current switch onto my youngest a couple years ago having rarely played it.

Chaplain I’ll probably skip it. I don’t do a lot of multiplayer anymore. Even our Friday night friends group hasn’t played in months.

I would love Metroid Prime 4, and I was one of the few who didn’t madly fall in love with Breath of the Wild so I never played Tears of the Kingdom (because I had given up my Switch by then). Those two games might get me to buy.

$90 for a physical copy of a game? And chances are it’s not actually a physical copy; just a “game key card” to let you download and play while plugged in.

It’s like it’s asking to get jailbroken and mass piracy to start immediately out of spite.

Adalicia More like Nintendo learned the worst design choices from Sony, Microsoft and the pc storefronts and implemented all the worst decisions at once.

And considering the trillion dollar fines they seem to levy against everyone they sue automatically, they could very well afford to set the console at $99 and call it done.

I’m out. Not loving the pricing scheme but it would have been manageable. We have the Switch and it does indeed get used. However, the pre-orders being canceled stateside and tariffs has made a fun to have item more trouble than I’m willing to be arsed with. The announced price likely will lower than the eventual street,…..sort of like video card,…

I expect the Switch 2 will be scalped to heck and back.

Maybe I’ll revisit the prospect when the OLED version is released.

Nintendo’s robust lottery applications indicate pent-up Switch 2 demand

TOKYO, April 23 (Reuters) - Nintendo said on Wednesday it has received 2.2 million applications in the lottery for its Switch 2 gaming device in Japan but cannot fulfil all the demand, indicating significant consumer enthusiasm for the more powerful gaming device.
There were far more applications on the My Nintendo Store than expected and the amount that can be delivered on June 5 has been greatly exceeded, Nintendo said in a social media post.
Shares jumped 5% in Tokyo on Thursday.
“The number is way beyond expectations,” said Serkan Toto, founder of the Kantan Games consultancy.

I haven’t owned a Nintendo console since the Wii. So I am looking forward to the Switch 2. But, I will only be playing it in docked mode.

I have an order in at Target and also at Best Buy. For the Mario Kart bundle. I will keep one of them and return the other. Most likely I will return the Switch 2 that shows up second.

aaronwt makes sense for folks who never owned a switch. Why not get the latest. For those who own one already this just looks like a fancy way to increase game prices yet again.
