kmax Switched to DirecTV with a couple streaming boxes and “real” remotes with linear channel numbers and all is ok in the world. None of that broadcast fee business.

Yeah, DirecTV via Internet is the closest to the standard “Cable TV” experience with remotes with numerical keypads and actual channel numbers.

I typically stream my shows via Peacock at times, or Max App, or Netflix app if i wanna watch a movie

If the cable bill was a bit lower, i’d pay for Commerical free Max & Netflix app, but other household member does not like streaming, and must have classic cable channels lol, So i make due with Ad supported tiers for time being lol, despite i kinda prefer Movies to be Commerical free lol if at all possible

Some movies i bought with my MS Bing rewards and watch from purchased the movies that are movies anywhere compatible, and when i wanna watch a movie, sometimes i watch one of those.

I think out of the 100 channels Youtube TV has, my parents probably only watch 5 or 6 of them.

I think that’s true of a lot of people, maybe most. It’s true of me. One nice feature of streaming is that I can pay per month. I pay for a ‘service’ 6 months out of the year. The other 6 months I use various low cost or free content. Roku has a bunch of free channels, most of them hold no interest to me but some do.

KurtLandis Sling, Plex, Roku, Tubi. Pluto and others have hundreds of free ad-supported channels if you just want to watch ‘something’. For background noise I like music videos from the 70’s or 80’s. But you aren’t going to find many current episodes of new series or any live sports there.

lesmikesell Roku has NFL channel for free, I think that includes games during the season. I don’t know about other professional sports. There is talk to ESPN buying NFL channel or the NFL owning part of ESPN. If that happens I don’t know if the NFL channel will remain as a throw in for various services. I don’t know that Disney gives much away unless Disney spins off ESPN.

There are no live NFL games on the NFL channel (although there is various real time coverage of scores and analysis), although they do replay some games (eventually). For sports fans who want to be part of the live action, the NFL channel is not really all of what they are looking for.

The NFL is looking at offloading their media assets, including the NFL Channel, and the RedZone. Given the expected price (about $2B), how the deal might end up being made (if a deal ends up being made at all) is unknown.
