I got a letter a few months ago saying I needed a modem replacement to get the new upgraded speeds. They did this, but there was no immediate speed up. Recently, we had a few power outages, and so the modem got rebooted. Now I am getting 500 mbits down and a somewhat choppy 87 - 100 mbits up! Recently, before the speed-up, there was some laggy performance on youtube and such, but a ping did not show any issues. So, I couldn’t be sure that was the network or youtube’s server. I just did some charter speed tests and got long pauses but then re-did them, it pulled up a different server, and did better. Maybe the most local server was overloaded.
