Hill behind the house

The year before house construction. Builder, tree guy and us walked the lot and hill behind the lot.
Builder determined which trees needed to go, and tree guy pointed out locusts he didn’t like.
We just nodded in agreement, with exception of one tree that looked poor, that was added to list. We justified our existence that day, beginning the long term lot beautification…..
Trees felled onto pad and burned. 2012.
Stumps that remained have rotted and today I chainsawed out 3 that improved the look of hillside behind house.
Then rebuilt the chainsaw with bar & chain kit I got on sale yesterday.
Little bit today, a little bit tomorrow….

JanJ have you considered burning the stumps? i have a friend in upstate ny (read: rural) and his fav way to do it is dig around the stump, drill horizontal and diagonal holes into the stump and set a bond fire around it. let it burn for a day. bye bye stump.

I did that on a few. Both behind house and pond and beside garage, the first area I cleared in the early 2000’s. I would place sheet metal stound stump, nailing it to stump to hold in place, fill with charcoal, light it, and watch as I cleaned other areas. 1.6 A on side of wooded mountain makes you become very adept at multitasking!!!!
This area behind house was less “visible”, so we let nature do the work and yesterday was the culmination of that!

That;s what I was just thinking. Been watching the fires in NC. First floods, then fire, wasn’t that in a book somewhere? 😉

Yes burn ban here. I last burned 3 weeks or so ago. Have more ready, and when things calm down…..
Spent last 3 days moving evergreen bushes, trees around on hill behind house.
Incredibly lucky! Here you must dig hole where it’s going before you dig up tree, or you could be in for a digging surprise!! Lotsa rocks in ground here.
We dug 3x holes with only small rocks!
That, and more mulch and a week or so watering should be fine and that should finish that area.

Areas that are burning are areas with lots of trees down because of HELENE.
Even here, where we got a glancing blow by HELENE, there have been more trees down this winter here than before.
