Ok, I checked online and at least there it sounds like good news. No malignancy detected. I have an appointment tomorrow.
I’m so grateful that I’m a lucky one and I want to make the most out of being given life.
I want to redouble my learning efforts and be more productive than before now. The old body has limitations, but I consider myself lucky. My wife’s best friend just died at 57 (she was my friend as well and a real sweet person) and it doesn’t escape me that had she lived in a first world country with good health care, she’d be alive.
I know that having cancer, heart issues, and diabetes, I’m on borrowed time. My wife doesn’t want me moving there now, which we had been considering, because health care where she is is poor, even with insurance.
And now it seems that Medicare and Medicaid are about to go under attack, meaning the rich will reap more and the poor will be even worse off.
Of course, some Americans are leaving the USA in response to what is going on, but I love my country and would fight to defend it even at my age and cruddy condition. Hopefully, when things worsen enough, Americans will wake up before it is too late and save this great nation. I want my final years to be happy with my countrymen.
In any event, I now struggle with the knowledge that I am alive simply because of modern medicine and that many much more deserving people aren’t. It makes me believe that I must do more with myself and even get back into volunteering again.
We reside in a great country, it’s a shame it is going down the tubes, we are too good for that.
