Scam offering new Bell phone modem?

This morning I got a call on my landline offering me a “free upgrade to a new modem for my phone” ?!?! It claimed that I was a Bell customer, which I’m not. I did NOT “Press 1 to speak to a Bell certified technician”. “I asked Mr. Google” about this and found a post by “dks” https://forum.bell.ca/t5/Internet/Fraud-Alert-Phone-Call-Offering-a-New-Modem/td-p/58694 Is that our “dks”?

I get these as well. I usually just hang up.

On the other hand, it could be Bell trying to get me to replace my HH 3000.

What I especially dislike is a call from someone who is trying to get me to use Bell services when I already have been using Bell for the last few years.

Old advice (2015) but still good:

Don’t press “1.”
Pressing any number, even if it suggests that doing so will take you off their list, only confirms your number is working and that they have reached a live person. Engaging the call in any way will just lead to more calls.

I get the Hello Bell customer… calls all the time. Not a customer.

I didn’t, but the mere fact that a human answered is a giveaway. I had the answering machine temporarily disabled because I was expecting a delivery this morning, and wanted to buzz the delivery driver into the condo building.

I always used to push 1 or whatever to get a person and I haven’t gotten a spam call in a couple years now.

Artwebb1986 I have pushed 1 before, it is hit and miss: sometimes their system sucks and it loses the call, other times I have had a discussion with someone to see what the scam is.
