Spam/scam increasing

it comes in waves but over the last two months there has been a steady increase in scam calls. Not on my Callcentric line because the IVR takes care of that nor on my Localphone numbers where massive scammer provider blocking does it’s job but on the cell phone. T mobile scam shield intercepts only about 50% so it’s really annoying and disruptive. With consumer protection going South all the way to Antarctica things are probably going to get even worse.
BTW the scammer providers are apparently jumping on the new Miami area code 645 so it will be even more blocking.

As I’ve written recently (maybe it was still back on DSLR!) yes I’ve seen some spam increase.

But E-MAIL spam increasing as well (coming full circle).

Just as some phone spam purports to come from your own phone number, my wife has seen some e-mail spam that purports to come from her own e-mail address…!

In EITHER of those cases, how do you block ?!

It is probably impractical for most people, but one way to get rid of cellphone telemarketers is to forward the cellphone calls to your spamproof callcentric or voip.ms number.

This works for t-mobile cellphones and maybe others.

forward calls from an iphone or android phone to your callcentric or voip.ms number:

Actually I did not have a case of someone spoofing my own number in the recent 3 years( it used to be pretty common before), there has been some increase in spoofing of numbers of legitimate providers. Those are almost always inactive numbers though.
VoIP lines give possibilities to filter scam/spam, with cell phones it’s difficult, I just have to rely on the 50% effective spam shield from T mobile.
I wish cell providers would give us the option to blanket block numbers from certain providers. I am not aware of any damage I would have sustained by blocking Onvoy or Peerless numbers.

Agree generally….but it’s a problem.

My local pharmacy was using an Onvoy number for a while.

And at least one New Jersey hospital is using Onvoy numbers.

Various 3rd party business telephone service providers arrange for these sorts of things and sometimes they do use numbers from Onvoy (names can also show up as Neutral Tandem, Sinch Voice, etc)….

Many of the businesses probably have no idea…they only know the name of their business phone service provider.

It is extremely rare down here. I had a couple of calls from a sharky collection agency because of a disputed hospital bill using Neutral Tandem before I b locked the number block. the other case was an automated notification system from my previous dental office using I think Peerless and that was a long distance number.
A good system would be allowing a blanket block but with a possibility of programming certain numbers which can go through.
