Boeing is reportedly seeking to withdraw its agreement to plead guilty in the criminal case related to the two deadly 737 MAX crashes a few years ago. The plane maker filed a formal guilty plea with the Department of Justice last year, but the deal was rejected by a US judge in December, sending Boeing back into discussion with the Justice Department. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Boeing is looking to withdraw last year’s agreement to plead guilty in the cases related to the two fatal 737 MAX air crashes. The US plane manufacturer is looking for lighter treatment from the United States Department of Justice under the new administration, the report adds. WSJ adds that people familiar with the matter say that the Justice Department under the new administration is ‘inclined’ to tweak some parts of the agreement, possibly lightening the punishment. It has been reported that both sides are currently engaged in negotiations to see what changes can be made to the deal. It is then expected to be reviewed by US District Judge Reed O’Connor by April 11. As part of the agreement last year, Boeing was required to spend over $400 million on safety and compliance improvements, and those familiar with the matter say that the company is not trying to get rid of that commitment. Korean Air officials agreed to a $32.7 billion purchase of Boeing aircraft and GE Aerospace engines that are made in the United States, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced Tuesday. The agreement includes Korean Air buying 50 Boeing wide-body commercial aircraft and GE Aerospace engines to power them, according to a Commerce Department news release. … Korean Air will pay $24.9 billion for 50 Boeing aircraft and $7.8 billion for GE Aerospace engines and maintenance services. The agreement includes orders for 20 Boeing 777-9 and 20 Boeing 787-10 wide-body aircraft to be delivered through 2033. Korean Air will buy another 10 aircraft under similar terms and eight spare engines from GE Aerospace with options for two more engines. GE Aerospace will provide “comprehensive maintenance” services for the GE9X engines that will power Korean Air’s Boeing 777-9 fleet. …

HELLFIRE Sure, no problem! The guilty plea can be withdrawn just as soon as Boeing completes the task of un-killing the passengers and crew who were aboard their defective flying death machines. As soon as they are all alive again, discussions about withdrawing their guilty plea and reducing the punishment (which was likely too much of a slap on the wrist as it was) can begin.
