Rogers On Demand ends on February 12, 2025

I noticed a service message was posted on Rogers On Demand when I attempted to view some programs on my Rogers NextBox STB. Apparently it is being removed from service on February 12, 2025. I'm guessing this service discontinuation will also apply to the Rogers Xfinity (formerly Ignite TV) system too.

I found it somewhat ironic that the end date is over 2 weeks away meanwhile there already is practically no useful content for the major Canadian channels (ie CTV, CITYTV, GLOBAL, CBC etc) so it looks like Rogers has started shutting down parts of the service early. Some of the specialty channels still have content available but that didn't help me attempt to watch a show on the regular Canadian channels that I missed IRL & didn't PVR since all shows programming seem to already have disappeared. 😧

I'm on that 2 yr plan and haven't heard anything about this......I doubt it.

Only the older ones, newer versions still work, for now. Rogers want to get rid of legacy digital cable. I think this is only for digital cable that on demand is shutting down. No word on Ignite/Xfinity.

[deleted] My building has a bulk contract and our NextBoxes will be replaced with the newer Xfinity system this year for our contract renewal.

I've been trying to keep my 4K NextBox as long as possible as that PVR system can be used during cable outages which we've had from time to time. I considered having it replaced in late December when it wouldn't let me record new shows from the Guide however I managed to make it work again after a factory reset (didn't fix the issue but lost all my recordings) and power removal for over 30 minutes (I guess it was some corrupted memory cache issue).

It does appear to be legacy digital cable only. Another move to get people away from it. However as others pointed out, the availability of programming on demand is getting smaller. CBC has nothing, because they want you use GEM, for example.
