Will We Ever See IPv6?

Looking at Hotwire's BGP prefixes they own quite a few IPv6 blocks do you think we'll ever see them?

Chiyo I thought ipv4 was supposed to be all used up 10 or 15 years ago. Whatever happened to that?😕 I was expecting to have a toaster with an ip address by now😛.

I'm sorry I can't answer the question the way you wanted an answer. I don't know anything about it. What do you need ipv6 for?

Heat84 I know this is a bit of a necro but I just found this forum and wanted to address this question.

I/we (people behind a CGNAT) might need/want IPv6 because we need to allow incoming connections on a certain port, which requires port forwarding. We can’t do that behind a CGNAT on an IPv4 address, but IPv6 would/should allow it.

I believe IPv4 is “all used up” meaning all the addresses have been claimed by ISPs/vendors; there are no unclaimed addresses left.

There might be thread resurrection Nazis around here who are gonna yell at you for resurrecting this thread. I don’t understand what their problem is as long as it’s on topic. I really don’t get it.

Somebody on another forum complained about a 2 week resurrection that I did. And they don’t care that you’re a new member(Welcome by the way). Some forums have a thread resurrection Nazi protocol and lock dormant threads automatically. And the threshold could be less than a month.

Heat84 Eh. Couldn’t care less. If the site’s creators intended for threads to not get necro’d, then they should have implemented methods to prevent it (auto-lock threads after ₃₀ days of inactivity, or whatever condition).
