After seven years of active development, we are proud to announce the next major release of GIMP – GIMP 3.0! While the original focus was on updating to a newer GUI library, this release is packed with many new features, enhancements, and usability improvements. While we can’t cover every single change from 2.10, we want to highlight some of the biggest ones as you start exploring this release.

takeahike And just think this program was released a long time ago, 1996 was the initial public release of GIMP (0.54) The first release only supported Unix systems, such as Linux, SGI IRIX and HP-UX. Since then, GIMP has been ported to other operating systems, including Microsoft Windows (1997, GIMP 1.1) and macOS. This software sure has had a long life.

My v3 install did not overwrite my v2 so I have both.

I had the latest v2 and the latest v3 release candidate when the final v3 came out so I deleted both of them and put the final v3 on. I’m sure that they’ll work out any problems with the final v3 but if wanted the last stable v2 is available here. I also noticed that an install of v3 does not overwrite a v2 one might have and puts them in separate directories, so you can have both.
