So far the two day storm system has claimed at least 30 lives from Straight Line Winds, Dust Storms, Wild Fires and Tornadoes

It was a different system, but we also had a very windy day on Saturday. My power went off the morning, and was off for quite some time, probably because the re-closer was detecting a short somewhere, so it could not turn the power back. Initially, I’ve had some flickering lights, then right after the power went off, then after a couple of seconds it came back for a few seconds, and then off again – and it off for several hours.

This happened about 6 days ago when a tornado touch down and went right over the local Fox News station.

We got about an hour of heavy rain here in Central Georgia. I got around 2″ between 3:30am and 4:30am, some areas west of here got over 9″ in the same time interval. Reviewed security cam footage and we had quite the fireworks show with lightning, but not much wind that I could discern. No tornado warnings just severe thunderstorm warning and tornado watch. A pretty boring night really.

How come the insurance companies and their actuaries never complain about tornadoes while they’re running as fast as they can away from Florida because of hurricanes? More people are killed by tornadoes these days than hurricanes and more neighborhoods are leveled by tornadoes than hurricanes these days. Furthermore, after their house is destroyed by a tornado, people in Tornado Alley rebuild their house out of popsicle sticks instead of CBS, and the insurance companies apparently don’t have a problem with that. Those people are smart enough to add a storm cellar when they rebuild, but if those people are just gonna rebuild there house out of popsicle sticks, they might-as-well just build the storm cellar and live in that.

I think it’s because hurricanes affect a much broader area than a tornados do.
