InternetJeff nope. You are not randomly asked here. There are well known cases of police not accepting Canadian driver’s licenses, usually in the southern states. And no, CBP have always been pigs. I remember flying through JFK from Dubai and seeing all the non-Caucasian passengers get yelled at with extra screening while the Caucasian passengers and US citizens were treated respectfully. Racism is alive and well.

Then there is the Canadian who properly presented herself at the US border with papers and a job application in order (confirmed by CBP) who was then tossed in jail for over a week with no explanation. She should have been refused entry and sent home. Such is the border chaos today. No one has the right to admission to any country. Dks01 she made the fatal choice of trying to apply at the Mexico border rather than the Canadian border. They couldn’t send her back into Mexico as she wasn’t a Mexican National. She had been previously refused a visa. Her lawyer even told her it was probably a bad idea to try to get her visa at the southern border crossing as if it went poorly she would be persona non grata until she could be deported to Canada but she went ahead and did it anyway. Should they have held her for a week? No - but they also probably didn’t have the resources available at the moment to take her to an airport and fly her back to Vancouver either. She really should have flown home and done her visa at the northern point of entry from which they could have turned her around and sent her back if her previous visa refusal caused problems.

Yes she did but the fact that she’s a Canadian citizen with a passport was even a shock to the guards there and they even asked why she was being held……………..shows how screwed up the new rules are. 🙁

I entered the US this morning at a Land crossing, and the only question I was asked was anything to declare. Nothing about destination, why i was traveling, duration, etc.

ZZZZZZZ Its a tough situation where they have a person trying to enter who isn’t admissible to either country - if they let her into the US she might not leave and she doesn’t have a valid visa to work/stay making her immediately an undocumented immigrant - but she’s also not Mexican and doesn’t have any inherent right to be sent back there. Theoretically she should have been loaded into a CBP van and driven to the San Diego airport, had her buy a ticket home to Vancouver, and had her walked onto the plane and sent home. That’s the “historically normal” state of affairs, but with how overcrowded the southern border crossings are, they likely are just taking anyone who is inadmissible and isn’t a national of US or Mexico and putting them through whatever the deportation system of the day is (which is apparently a week of shuffling you around to various places until someone takes you to the airport).

I’d probably be against this if I hadn’t already given them my fingerprints and retina scans for my NEXUS. So with that being said, I shrug at this requirement.

I feel it’s a bit too heavy handed but at the same time I get it, they have a massive problem with illegals in their country committing all kinds of nefarious crimes. It’s their country so… whatever. I’m sure down the road we’ll be giving DNA samples.

As I understand it, they use Iris scans rather than Retina scan, which is a little easier to go through anyway.
