Last year I got 16 TB refurb HDD (Exos X18 16 TB) and didn’t test it in time. (Within 30 days) I normally do some very extensive tests to minimize the chance of a pre-existing defect being unnoticed.
What’s happening with this HDD is that the read transfer rate curve looks perfect, but writes vary all over the place, overall being very abysmal. Any idea on what may be responsible for it, and if there is a possible remedy? I’m not sure if an unacceptable write DTR is sufficient for a warranty return.
I’m currently doing a re-initialization in HDSentinel – that did fix an older Seagate a few days ago, but I don’t think it will work with this one, though it might take a few days until I will know that.
