Best phone mount for a car/SUV?

I’m hoping to drive uber via their rental plan. One thing I will need is a phone holder/mount that is very sturdy, will work with most cars, and can be moved from car to car.

You are all familiar with uber and lyft, so you can assume that is the perspective from where I am searching.

Also, any other devices I might need, like driver cams.

I’m am very much about lawful safe driving, so please keep that in mind.

Edit to add: Be sure to check the specs. I inherited one when my sister passed away. It fits my wife’s iphone fine, but my Sasumsung S24 with a Unicorn Beetle case won’t quite fit in the width. ~~There is an extension device on the page that fixes that.~~

2nd Edit: The extension you can buy is for vertically raising the height if needed, not increasing width. I rechecked the stated specs which said “up to 3 and ⅜ inches wide” phones. My S24+ is exactly that with its Beetle case on. So I went down to her car and tried it again on my phone. Really snug, but it did slide in and would be usable for me.

Concur on the WeatherTech CupFone, though it does take up a cupholder and it’s a bit tricky to align the concentric rings to fit. But you only have to do that once. You’ll probably need to use the included rubber wrap for an exact fit and to prevet jiggling. Have one in my Malibu.

In my Camaro, I use https://www.proclipusa.com/ as it’s custom designed to fit the dash or console with a no-drill contoured mount. Absolutely no vibration. The mount and the phone holder are separately priced. Does not fit my Malibu as it has a leather interior with a thickly padded dash.

I used to just use a cup holder phone holder in the past with my Fusion, however, with my Escape, because of car play I don’t bother to put in a phone holder just put my phone in the center console.

The car you rent might have both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, I recommend if possible to be able to use that feature.

It makes it much safer with Uber you will be able to accept rides on the touch screen. See the map and everything, If possible use it.

Excellent point. I thought that, too, when I read the thread opener, but decided to just focus on the actual question since the WeatherTech CupFone holder is not only a good holder but can be moved from car to car.

Anotther consideration is new cars seem to be coming more and more with inductive (cordless) phone chargers so you don’t have to mess with cords for the charging aspect, and bluetooth can take care of the hands free phonecall operation with the car’s built in display. But, as far as I know, Android auto and Apple still require a cable to be able to use navigation, though a quick google search makes me think the requirement for cable is going away. If nothing else, tethering with a USB cable avoids deficiencies of wireless bluetooth.

I think you meant, “…will be low and not in window level visibility.” That is true. Personally, I see that as a plus, but if it is your requirement that it be at that level, see also the “Extension for CupFone” on the page that I linked.

If you want one that adheres to the windshield, they make one of those, too, that you can view on the page I linked. But I have no experience with it.
