Fiber gateway hidden Wi-Fi network

I received a new fiber gateway, and have them put it in bridge mode and turn off the Wi-Fi networks. There still seems to be a hidden network that is clogging up the best Wi-Fi channel. I tried calling them.. is there some way of turning the hidden network off or changing its channel?

If Optimum turned it off for you, then it is off. There are no other hidden Wi-Fi networks broadcast by the gateway.

As mentioned above, if Optimum turned Wi-Fi off, then it is off. What you are seeing is not coming from the gateway.

This unfortunately no longer works. You must call to have Wi-Fi disabled.

I’m in bridge mode and have the OOL Gateway Wifi disabled. If you have them do it I’m not sure what that looks like. I have the GR140DGM which I assume is the first revision of their gateway so my not apply to yours. I disabled the WiFi by holding down the info button IIRC, I just looked on reddit and found it below since I did it over two years ago and it survives firmware updates, power losses and reboots.

If you’re not sure if it’s coming from your Gateway or a neighbor and you’re running windows download WifinfoView from www.nirsoft.net, it will show all the AP’s out there. You’ll see hidden and unhidden AP's and some manufacturers and some Model numbers. You'll see all the mac address and PHY Types. You should be able to narrow it down from there.

just_4_fun Im in the same boat, early adopter and was able to turn off WIFI myself. Good to see the posts below though that show this may no longer work easily.

Sad to see they removed yet ANOTHER self serve option.

Yes, nowadays you need to call to turn off wi-fi. After I got home I did more troubleshooting. The hidden Wi-Fi network was not from Optimum. It was from my Gryphon router. Even though I have it set to have Wi-Fi off 23 and 3/4 hours a day, it's not really off. There is a hidden network on the channel that Wi-Fi is set for. I opened up a new ticket with Gryphon. At the very least, I can control what channel it's on, now that I know where it's coming from.

I'm a fios transplant and if there was no working bridge mode I would have never switched teams. If our gateway SSID suddenly reappears and I can't disable it at least I'll know the situation and call. Thanks for the heads-up

It was the gateways that supported 2Gbps speeds and higher that initially had the issue. It wasn't that they didn't work in bridge mode, it was that the gateways would occasionally freeze up and block/drop Internet access with bridge mode enabled. These gateways are different than those that only support 1Gbps. And yes, there was a firmware update to them that fixed the issue.

Regardless of which gateway one gets, nowadays a call is required to enable bridge mode and/or disable WiFi. I had both done in one call to support.

BigO We have been lucky so far and have had reliable service going into year 3. We haven’t had to call and open any trouble tickets and I hate calling anywhere for customer service/tech support, I rather sit and watch paint dry
