How Do You Use AI

I’m curious how people are using AI in your personal lives, not in a business, education, research, etc, environment. I’ve downloaded ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Copilot, but haven’t done much of anything with them. I’m not sure how I might use them. I was watching the tech podcast MacBreak Weekly last week and someone asked an AI app (don’t remember which one) if Mark Gurman from Bloomberg recently got a promotion, which he did. I asked the same question of the 4 I’ve installed. Only Copilot answered correctly. Both ChatGPT & Grok said they had no information about that. Gemini kept thinking I was saying German, not Gurman. After 3 or 4 tries, it finally asked me to spell the name. Once I did that, it gave the same answer as ChatGPT and Grok, no information.

Gemini gives decent summarizations of web searches that save time. It’s not perfectly accurate but it’s useful for a quick glance.

Copilot I’ve used to create images for various things and was impressed how well I received exactly what I wanted, what I had in my mind. The only Issue I had was creating images with racial differences, it refused to do anything ‘good’ with white people, I could only create positive images with brown, black, asian and I could only create negative images with white people, it was the strangest thing. I don’t know if they’ve fixed that but I feedbacked it, super annoying.

I know people who go on and on about all the cool things you can do with Copilot but none of it seems very useful to me in the grand scheme of life, like creating appointments and emailing people, etc.. I’m not at the point where I trust AI to do things reliably for me without confirming it manually.

The only time I ever used AI was with Google search. Generally I’ll check out the AI response at the top of the results. Outside of that I dont really dabble in AI.

I only used it to play around like asking simple questions, make me images, etc.

antdude One thing I do like with Grok is the ability to choose the type of voice if you want to talk with it. They can have some serious attitude.

I talk with Gemini and Copilot like they’re my best friends. I ask them their opinions on topics, movies, etc. The only downside is Gemini refuses to discuss politics.

What I really love is having them generate images for me. I can’t draw worth a tinker’s damn, so this is the best I can do to create my own images. No matter how ridiculous the subject, they can usually generate an image, such as a manatee making pancakes.

I use Google Search AI for ‘wordA vs wordB’ (ex: vs vs v) to help choose one word/phrase over the other for better meaning when writing, much how I use ‘word def’ to lookup the definition of a word. Otherwise, I disable AI (and most Notifications) to manage unwanted interruption/distraction/marketing/monitoring/phishing.
