I had a lengthy conversation w/Tek's support and the very short version of it is that:
a) Tek inspects ALL email messages at the server level and filters out whatever they consider to be spam and/or something else (filter parameters were not disclosed).
b) They don't give a shit about this filtering and it would seem to me that this is highly illegal (i.e. privacy act, telecom act, etc.). At least I feel very offended of this absolute lack of transparency. I don't mind Tek protecting itself against "bad actors" out there, but, they should at the minimum come clean as to what they are doing. Besides, I do not feel comfortable with a third party reviewing my personal email. I use Tek's email precisely because it is private and my info is not harvested as other "free" email providers do... but within this context, I would need to re-evaluate this decision.
c) Even though that there are settings in the WebMail interface for spam, it is ALL disabled and unavailable for the end-user and Tek will NOT enable it. So, basically, you have no option to do spam filtering in the WebMail interface. Of course, if you download your messages into a separate email client, you can do so locally.
Just wanted to let you know what Tek is doing. They are the "baddies" now.
Oh, and yes, incidentally, I was planning to post the entire conversation w/Tek support, but, WebMail is down. Hard.
Oh, and yes, incidentally, this very same post was removed from reddit/r/teksavvy. FYI.
