Binged it last night because I couldn’t help myself…
1) Kevin Bacon is an amazing actor, he seemed like an old washed up character on City on a Hill but here he seems like a vibrant middle aged dude. He carried this show to the finish line.
2) The show could have used just a few more jokes that made you laugh, it tried to be amusing but it really wasn’t that funny. I lol’d at the smoking with the hole in the neck but that was pretty much the end of that.
3) … or perhaps it could have been more serious? It seemed like it couldn’t find its footing between the drama and dark comedy, it wasn’t dramatic enough and it wasn’t funny enough.
4) Not happy it ended on a cliffhanger since we can’t always trust these streaming companies to renew shows (although I expect this to get renewed).
It’s hard to say how I feel about this, I like the Kevin Bacon character a lot, I like the story idea, I like elements of the story, but I feel like there was a lot missing from this, like it could have been 1,000x better if the recipe was fine tuned.
It’s almost like, if you took the humour from Stan of the Dead, threw in a bit more of Ash vs. the Evil Dead craziness, and kept the Kevin Bacon story minus almost everything around him, then you’d have something that was awesome. Unfortunately it feels like this fell a bit flat.
I’d probably give it a ⅗ stars but I want to see a second season.
