They have been expanding like crazy in Pennsylvania. The areas specified in this article are Blue Ridge Cable and SECV areas.
Funny that Scranton area (Northeast) is part of Comcast Keystone region. This means the packets travel southwest to State College > Mckeesport > Pittsburgh. They are on the *.pa.pitt.comcast.net network.
Milage wise it would have been shorter (and less latency) to hop on the *.pa.panjde.comcast.net (Freedom) off the Ivyland hub - but who knows why it was wired up that way.
Either way both routes end up existing in Ashburn, VA or New York - and Freedom has a much shorter path to NY through the newark hub.
