Auria EQ276W Dead Monitor Follow-up

So I have two Auria EQ276W 2560x1440 monitors that seemed to have died. I opted to try a new Power Supply brick on one of them as the power supply is external and easy to source. The first attempt was a success. The monitor is like new and has been for some time.

Well I finally got around to the second monitor. I was less then optimistic since it seemed to have died in a slightly different way. Using the known good power supply (the new replacement) I attempted to star the second monitor. It worked and seemed fairly bright. Initially I was thinking I might have to replace backlighting or something but its serviceable. I just have to order a new power supply for it.

The only oddity seemed to be that some of the colors were a bit off. Red seemed more like a pink-ish purple. I tried to make some adjustments but it didn't seem to make a defense. May be an interface board problem. The power button is stuck in the on position and has been for years so that might need to be looked out.

The good news is its working though,...

While switching power supplies are better than the old style transformer based supplies in pretty much every respect, the long term reliability of some supplies is highly questionable.

I actually took apart and repaired a couple of failed supplies, and wonder how much of the failure rate is due to cheap component selection and how much is to bad design.

Both. Switcher design is no longer rocket science, so the biggest problems are generally under-specifying heat/power margins for the componentry used and then using the 'cheapest' components available with no thought given to component reliability and thermal-margin specs. The net result is premature failure of parts...

The power supply just arrived today. This is the model I ordered and already have as a replacement for the other monitor:

I probably bought these monitors in 2012 so that’s about ₁₄ years before the original PSU gave up the ghost. Naturally I’d rather those PSU were still serviceable but if that’s the only noteworthy issue I’ll take it. I had a Viewsonic HDTV fail from a notoriously poor quality internal PSU (capacitors). I tried replacing the suspect capacitors but never did get it working again. So I’ll take this over that any day.
