I’m almost positive that I heard a few days ago that they never bothered charging taxes for same-day trips until now. Something like that anyway. It was a short blurb in a 2-minute TV news thing, so not much details.
Same day trips? They always did, more often than not. Some days you’d get lucky, more days you would not.
I bought a couple of jackets worth around $400 at Macy’s a few years back and had a nice woman that gave me the warmest smile and let me go. Another time I bought a Nintendo Switch and had to pay. They usually let me go on taxable items purchased at the grocery stores like laundry detergent, dish soap, toilet paper, or paper towels but not all the time.
The way it typically went is if you had something under $60 they probably wouldn’t send you in to pay but i’ve been sent in for $42 before.
What I wasn’t sure about upthread was the 24 hour trip, I was thinking you had a $200 limit without tariffs on cigarettes and alcohol but thinking about it, it may have always been 2 days.
