Bored and sleeved Canadian block with stroker kit.
Here's the '38 Ford of a guy I had known since high school. It ran a Canadian block flathead, bored and sleeved with stroker kit, track grind cam, three Stromberg 97s - a popular configuration for flatheads.

The first time I met him he was going to beat the crap out of me because I'd strayed into his neighborhood when I was hitch hiking home. One of his buddies knew me and vouched for me, saving me a lot of grief. We became friends, and remained so for years.

He loved racing and stayed in it clear up to when he was too ill to continue.

Is anybody here a dirt track fan, racer and have memories of local or regional drivers and tracks?
Back in the day, it was possible for local businesses or individuals to compete and win, although rarely making a profit. Hobby stockers were often cobbled together on a shoestring budget.

One example was us guys dropping a 302 Jimmy into a '50 Chevy coupe and using casing head gas for fuel. That fuel was a byproduct of oil and gas wells of the drilling company I worked for in summers of high school years.

St Thomas Speedway 1/4 mile clay surface- St Thomas, Pa, 1956-1973 Was our home track when I was growing up it was less than 5mi away. My first race there would have been as a baby in spring-summer of 1962. We were there all the time, in the off chance that we were not you could still here them running if the wind was still or blowing from the racetrack direction to our house. My dad was a local engine builder. Here is an aerial view of what it looks like today.

Sadly any and all our pictures were ruined in our basement that flooded thanks to Hurricane Agnes in 1972.
