I'm Art446's stand in for Q-Dir!

Art446 showed up over a month ago as I had hoped but I don’t think he’s been back since, so I suppose I’ll have to fill in for him on one of his favorite update notices, Q-Dir. As a valued member of DSLR, let’s hope that he sticks with us. Current release is v12.11.

Don’t like the new site as much? I’m pretty happy for several reasons. Although I suppose that it’s kind of like missing an old friend who has died, first, I haven’t seen some of the real ass*****s from DSLR come over here (now I won’t mention any names–let’s hope they never make it here!). It’s also a lot easier here than on DSLR to do many things, like create links and italicize and bold words, etc. I do kind of miss the all the broadband news that DSLR had but in the end the forums were the main thing, and that’s what we have here. Another thing is that moderation here is not the semi-gestapo type that there was on DSLR–it was mainly in The Pub and Open Forum there, so maybe it didn’t affect you as much in the Microsoft and Software forums you mainly hung out in there.

I like the new site a lot and find it quite useful. In fact, I find the new text input system to be pretty easy to use too. But I do miss using code lol. I don’t blame anyone for missing the old site as there was a lot to miss; ISP reviews, DSLR front page news with discussions, the very first HTML5 Speed Test, line quality tools, tons and tons of F.A.Q. pages, hardware database, the IM function was rather cool with the little blinky yellow envelope for messages and red for forum/system notifications, forums that no longer exist on BBF and more, buddies, and official ISP support forums.

True, DSLR had many things but we are certainly lucky to have the new site and certainly owe a debt of gratitude to SLC_96 for creating it. After all, beggars can’t be choosers.

Unlike the cat, Art never came back. I really can’t understand why some great members on DSLR like Art never really stuck it out–was DSLR going down something to be heartbroken about, like losing the love of your life? OTOH, a plus is that some of the real PITAs, whether intentional or not, never made it here and at least a couple that did have now been effectively banned (I certainly won’t mention any names🤔).
