Astyanax I would think some of that stuff like those old vacuum tubes are worth some decent money these days. If these COs are so abandoned why don’t they clean them all out and sell the real estate?
nucleartx Astyanax If there was a new tech or local need, they would already have the infrastructure/real estate in place. The return on the real estate sale probably wouldn’t even be a blip on the yearly financial report.
SpottedCat COs are hardened buildings that are right at where all the right-of-ways for running utilities converge. Telcos would have to be insane to sell them. Unused space can be turned into server hosting at the very least; lots of demand for that.
Astyanax nucleartx They could at least hire a cleaning service to clean them out. 😜 I remember on DSLR a thread of various COs around the country and marveling at the unusally beautiful landscaping around some of them yet inside them they look like a place Ted Kaczynski would feel at home in with all the abandoned old tech in them.
legacy7955 Astyanax I agree about T selling obsolete legacy equipment and things like vacuum tubes as well. Lots of hams that would be interested in those too. I think some of those items would fetch a LOT of money if auctioned off. I’m sure some bored managers wouldn’t mind rummaging around in those old buildings…as long as they are on the clock and getting paid. :
