Do you have some examples?
I don't have any recent examples since I stopped doing the whole film festival circuit after the film festivals started selling out to big money. Back in the old days (especially in the 90s) I used to see piles of great (and terrible) movies at Sundance, TIFF, and other smaller film festivals like Seattle, New York, and Rochester, and I could rattle off a pile of amazing movies that were snubbed for various reasons but now they're all a mishmash of movies in my head. Around the same time the premium cable stations IFC and Sundance stopped airing independent and foreign movies, or just good movies in general and turned into basic cable shows for Law and Order or SWAT.
If you asked me this question in the 90s or early 2000s I'd just tell you to watch IFC or Sundance channel for a week and guaranteed within a few days you'd see a movie that blew you away, a movie that made you laugh or cry, then you'd look online wondering why it wasn't nominated at the Academy Awards and find out it wasn't submitted by the Indian government or it didn't meet the eligibility criteria for the genre the awards people felt it should be within.
At the same time, why was FX allowed to submit The Bear in the comedy group which bumps out all the actual comedy shows comedy show actors? Why isn't it in the drama category? This is another thing that irks me about the awards ceremonies, this shouldn't have been allowed. The Bear should have had to go against The Morning Show, Hacks, and The Crown because it's a drama or at best a dramedy with a focus on drama.
And specifically concerning The Oscars, people don't realize they have a "Representation and Inclusion Standards" which include a requirement to be played at a paid ticketed showing in one of six US theater areas, must have a week long showing with attendance at every showing with three showings per day, must be "advertised and exploited", etc., etc.. Oh, and there's also a disclaimer that the Academy reserves the rights to declare a movie ineligible at any time, for any reason. And to top it off there's been a pile of filmmakers who have been complaining that the Academy has dropped close to a thousand movies from consideration in the past decade because they didn't fulfill DEI requirements for underrepresented groups in making their movies...

So with that being said, there are piles and piles of movies that are out there in the atmosphere that you might find amazing but they can never be considered for an Oscar because they don't check all the boxes, whether it's funding or advertising or DEI.
Let me think about this though, I may still PM you a list of movies down the road that I think you should watch but since I've been alive for so many more years than when I was going to film festivals, all the "omg this movie was amazing you should see this" has been bumped for all the good Hollywood movies you've no doubt seen.
