First, she could've taken some pills -- possible on purpose, perhaps by accident, and they could've impacted her in a number of ways. For example, a sudden blood pressure change could've caused a loss of balance leading to a fall and hitting her head on the floor.
None of the medications listed would have caused immediate distress even in large quantities. I agree that she could have fallen somehow and lost consciousness, possibly cerebral edema and death, but why then collect the pills as evidence? Any ingestion would be discovered through the autopsy or toxicology report. My guess is that they took the pills in the event that they had been denatured somehow.
One remote scenario:: Betsy is in the front of their home and Gene is in the kitchen with his sunglasses and cane preparing to go outside as well through the mudroom. At that moment Gene suffers a heart attack, calls to his wife and then collapses to the floor dead. Betsy, hearing his calls, rushes through the front door leaving it open. Seeing him in his distress and not knowing what to do, runs to the restroom to recover his Diltiazem, a calcium channel blocker used to reduce blood pressure and alleviate angina. Desperate in her search, she opens several bottles of medications spilling their contents upon the counter. The German Shepard in his cage is barking loudly and contributes to her confusion and desperation. When she finally finds the correct medication she attempts to rush back to her husband but trips on the space heater, used to keep the dog comfortably warm, falls and suffers a fatal head injury. After several days the dog dies of dehydration.
