My theory:
1) Mr. Hackman died suddenly, not a surprise at 95, and fell to the floor or wherever.
2) His long-time wife was exceedingly (!) distressed, took a whole bunch of pills, tossed the open bottle to the floor, and died.
3) Initial reports were that the dog was found next to them, in which case it might have been supposed that the dog ate a bunch of the pills too. HOWEVER later reports were that the dog had been locked up so starved to death after the several days or whatever.
4) Autopsies (AND drug toxicology) on all 3 (including the dog) should be done and should shed light. As will determining what kind of pills were found.
5) If they had been dead for days or weeks, how come none of the workers on the estate noticed? We know there was at least one maintenance man. How about the wife's business partner, the wife helped run a small business in town.
6) AND what about his 3 kids (from his first marriage). How old are THEY now, were they estranged, or not estranged but just not in regular contact. (When my dad died he was about the same age, but we were in contact pretty much every day).
7) Reports are that there was no gas leak or other problem with the HVAC systems.
RIP, by numerous accounts that I've been reading he was a good guy.
And his wife was quite accomplished as well.
