I love this quote: "To broadband ISPs and their friends complaining about the New York law and proposed Massachusetts laws mandating a low-income broadband service offering: you asked for complete deregulation at the federal level and you got it. This is the consequence," Gigi Sohn, executive director of the American Association for Public Broadband, wrote today.

I appreciate the courts are upholding this, as thats exactly it. They wanted no federal regulation, so there is none. Effectively relying on the 10th amendment "power to the states".

Personally Id love to see more municipal broadband out of this, but Im sure thatll get killed at the state level (if it hasnt already been as in many places).

Broadband should not be supported by the taxpayers likewise BB providers should not be required to offer lower cost BB based on a person's income.

Let the market decide, not the government using OPM.

Not under the current FCC commissioner and hopefully never, furthermore BB service is not taxed as a Universal Service.

You really do not seem to understand what the Universal Service tax is.

HeyWutsNew "Universal services" tend to be abused by governments as an endless source of income for pet project funding. Meanwhile, the "universal" service part is rarely met, the free part is rarely available, while the fee and taxed amount always increase. Then customers start avoiding it because of the high taxes and fees on minimal basic services that don't really meet their needs, or they have to buy "supplemental" services to make up the short falls. Governments are slow to move and can't keep up with fast moving tech or capacity needs. The bigger the government, the slower they move and the more money they waste in bureaucratic inefficiencies.
