Hmm XER5, that’s a new one. Router only maybe… a la Spectrum’s 2 box setup?

Maybe used in conjunction with XD4’s or EPON areas with additional 2.5G+ ports that’s lacking on the XB8?

telcodad If that’s the case, that might not bode well for xFi Pods. Then again, there’s been no mention of why it’s incompatible with the Storm Ready device.

telcodad I used the business version of Storm Ready WiFi and it didn’t even work right. It was the Cradlepoint CP2. The lan ports wouldn’t link up. If you push the reset button for 30 sec to default it, the LAN ports worked fine, you’d get dhcp and could access its web gui. As soon as you’d connect it to wan, it would phone home and disable the lan ports. Big paperweight. Took it right to the UPS store to get Connection Pro $29.95/m removed from that sites bill. I was directed by a 45 minute Comcast business call that was transfer after transfer after transfer because nobody knows anything about it.

telcodad probably just for now while firmware gets worked on. I think XB8 didn’t originally have Xfinitywifi early on or some other feature and was later added. It’s also currently not compatible with wireless boxes.

Cradlepoint used to be one of the "go to" companies for such dual wan capabilities (although I am not sure if they kept their engineering expertise after Ericsson bought them). I suspect Comcast just screwed up the provisioning.

CBR2 went into a pfsense WAN1 and CR2 went into WAN2. Gateway group setup with CBR2 on Tier1 and CR2 on Tier 2. ipsec vpn established to a remote firewall in a datacenter. Frr-ospf plugin configured. Cost high like 25. OSPF peer with a L3 swtich with a primary fiber point to point with a low OSPF cost approx 2.
So Comcast was the backup, and we really didn't need a backup to a backup.

Initially it worked, about 10/1 mbps. Then at some point it just bricked. Rather see the $29.95/m charge removed. So sent back. Nobody in customer service seemed to know anything about it.

Curious how Storm Ready wifi works. Does it provide internet TO the XB8? Or can you wire it in as a Tier 2 failover provider in the router of your choice? Does it take over DHCP? Im curious how you wire it up.

videomatic3 the gateway seems to suck though. Incompatible with X1 wireless boxes and storm ready wifi. Hopefully it’s a temporary incompatibility.

The vast majority of customers seem to prefer gateways (and for the few others, there are COAMs[0]). While not ideal, you can use the XB series in bridge mode, and fewer skus to manage tends to be a win for an org the size of Comcast. Should there be a dedicated D4.0 FDX modem I would not be surprised if it is limited to BCI customers (which have specialized requirements).

[0] Yes, we have no clue of any vendor will actually offer COAMs for D4.0 FDX. But at some point the vendors should be able to have the option (unless the FCC rules are rescinded).
