Just did some reconfiguring of my home network to accommodate the Dish Network Hopper installation. My eight port Netgear Ethernet switch was maxed out and I had only one Ethernet port on my Netgear Orbi router to play with. I installed a second five port Netgear Ethernet switch and while doing the connections I discovered I had an empty Ethernet cable that was just sitting behind the entertainment center that was connected to the switch. I moved some of my equipment to the new five port Netgear Ethernet switch and disconnected the unused cable. Had I known that there was a live unused cable behind the entertainment center that would have simplified the Dish installation.
At least I’m glad I don’t work in the cable and satellite business. Working behind entertainment centers is a PITA. Installing receivers and connecting wires is real fun, NOT.
Everything was already installed. I was just optimizing things. I don’t like running too much off of one switch if I can avoid it. And I like to hardwire anything that is stationary that is close to the router like game consoles, printers, desktop PCs, etc. The Hopper is hardwired Ethernet to the internet and to the Joey. I didn’t take the Hopper Plus option. I saw a video on YouTube where it actually ruins the Hopper experience. A guy got it installed and he took it out.
