To Answer your question, maybe in 2 years things will stabilize and return to some semblance of sanity or perhaps not.
There are other factors to consider. A natural disaster (flooding in Thailand) caused HDD prices to spike in 2011. in 2017 Crypto mining caused GPU price spikes. Likewise, Chia mining caused HDD price to spikes in 2021. Ai is just the current man made disaster to cause hardware price spikes.
Also note the rush for the industry to provide “Services”. A reasonably self contained software product may be rebranded as a “Service” to better monetize the product and keep customers paying annually, weekly or monthly. Video games for example are now on offer by renting compute power. So private businesses have a vested interest to sell compute power Ad Infinitum to the masses in a quasi “You’ll own nothing and like it” Faustian bargain.
CPU, GPU, storage (HDD / SSD), RAM etc. have become resources that some companies can benefit from denying the general public.
Ultimately IMO AI is not just unregulated but governments are actually aiding in its rollout at the detriment of the people (in many ways). The question is less about will hardware get cheaper in XYZ years and more about what companies are incentivized to provide what I want at an affordable price, will said companies still be around in XYZ years and will Ai put me out of a job (thus making nonessential expenses a nonstarter anyway)?
We can hope the bubble will pop and soon but until that happens there is no guarantee that it will.
