hex0101 Are they really not offering this to existing customers? Just a few years ago, if you called the 800 number and asked to cancel service, you’d be transferred to retentions and they’d offer you the new customer deals like this.

GSM-in-FL The last few years it has been really hard to get any deals as an existing customer. I snagged a $65/mo for 1G as the best I could find when new customers would have gotten it for $50. And even that was only offered for a few weeks - generally it was $75 or $100 for existing customers.

I have three weeks left on my $50 1 gig 1 year promo. I reached out via Reddit and was offered $95 for 5 for 1 gig. Haven’t yet done the cancel threat call or the store visit.

I’ll wait two weeks and try the store route. Maybe it’ll work. Maybe I’ll do the second account at the same address nonsense.

GSM-in-FL From what I have seen Comcast is very inconstant on who they offer deals to. My guess is areas that have stiff competition as in another cable provider or a Fiber provider they might be more willing. In areas without, not so much.

On a side note. I wonder if someone goes from NOW to Post Paid, if your considered a new customer? Because it might be an idea to swtich to NOW for a time and maybe migrate back to post paid after some time passes.

I think management might be cracking down over time as employee turnover happens. I have heard they are working to fix the same address loophole so getting deals by signing up with another person’s name wont work anymore.

Donut417 It worked for us coming from OG Prepaid. Can’t say for sure about NOW, since the OG portal/app & payment process is different.

Exactly! Aggressive policies like that would be just shooting yourself in the foot as a company.

Yep, heck I had quad play for years, every two years would do the song-and-dance of retention and they would treat me right.

Welp, guess who lost that battle for easy revenue.

I wish that sort of thing would happen on my street but then I remind myself my area has Fidium for the telco/fiber provider which is now a private equity owned company. Better off sticking with Xfinity lol

lesmikesell They did this in my neighborhood a few months ago, and have been back a few times to take more photos. Also said Fiber is coming! I went outside to chat! Guy was so nice! So far, trees have been trimmed away from the existing copper and Coax Hardline, Orange Rope was pulled in the rear easement and tied down to the pole, and the PFP cabinet has been installed next to the existing crossbox. Even on it’s own concrete pad! Next Step: Pull Some Fiber and put it up on the poles!

Also seeing more AT&T Fiber fiber splicing trucks around town, someone in a local FB group even noticed it and asked when it would be available.

Every so often, they do a big push and just deploy PON to some neighborhoods, but not all.

Probably will use Corning Fiber?
Comcast Contractors used CommScope Fiber. Almost a year ago now they ran the fiber pass my home as part of a node split project. Added new Orange Tags to the Hardline Coax.

And when Comcast ripped out the OM6000 FDX node half a mile away that was installed a few weeks after mine and replaced it with Harmonic as the node kept shorting out. Intermittent Issues with Power Delivery. The end result is that it triggered constant outages. Bet that was fun to troubleshoot! Especially Intermittent Issues.

havaloc they could likely keep some even if they do a one or two yearlong for existing, or even a discount but less of one that new subscriber (i.e. $65 for gig vs 50 for new if you complain)

havaloc MVNO may be their favorite consumer revenue stream, no expensive network maintenance since it’s Verizon’s network, not a log of staffing to keep it running, etc…

Donut417 Because the cable companies have spent decades being greedy and treating customers like shit. Some times its not about the “Best” solution, its about the solution thats good enough so you dont have to deal with certain providers.

That describes my wife. When I first met her she had a local cable company and was happy with it, no problems. Then Comcast bought them, problems started. Then we moved in 1995 and Comcast was the incumbent. It was only a short time then we had DirecTV. For internet we had dial up then Verizon DSL. The DSL worked pretty well, pretty new plant and the central office was about ¾ of a mile away. Mid 2000s FiOS came in, I remember contractors with digging bars digging in frozen ground in February.
I believe I’d have waited a couple months.

I did have Comcast internet and mobile phone for a year and 10 months after she passed. I can’t say anything bad about Comcast during that time but I didn’t give them a chance to play games once the introductory period was about over.

For the dozen people that will care about it? The way to reduce customer losses is to drop prices. But that may not reduce profit losses.
